What is D.J.Milner Haulage?
D.J.Milner is a family run haulage company, we have been involved in railway preservation since 1980, then we moved on to moving railway locomotives and rolling stock, for the foxfield railway in 1984 this was to help reduce transport costs.
What we do?
We started D.J.Milner haulage in November 1987, we specialised in the movements of railway locomotives, rolling stock and all types of abnormal loads in particular quarry equipment and plant. We also worked with mobile cranes up to 1200tonne capacity, we can move JIB sections and Ballast too. Whilst working with crane companies we were pleased that this lead to a lot of work moving boats, especially canal boats, Dutch barges and Yachts etc:
With hard work and dedication and care for the items that we are trusted with, we have successfully completed many unusual moves including, Aircraft, Traction engines, Fairground equipment and abnormal sized boats. Sons, James and Thomas have grown up in the business. James passed his heavy goods license aged 18 under the Governments young drivers’ scheme and became one of the youngest lorry drivers in the country. Thomas later passed his class 2 after the scheme had ended and the age limits reduced. Though Thomas helps part time, James is a full time, valued and popular member of the group.
We can cater for all railway guages from 15in to 5’3″; we have adapted some of our trailers so we can gain access at certain restricted sites. Also we can arrange Cranage and specialist lifting as required as well as machine moving, for example: Jacking and Skating. We cover all aspects of transporting wide loads including notification, permits and of course escorting, to the requirements of our customers. We can arrange for worldwide shipping.
